What is Equivalent sampling rate?


Equivalent sampling rate means that the oscilloscope combines the waveforms acquired from multiple acquisitions (multiple triggers) into one waveform. The sampling rate may be very slow at each sampling. The trigger point has certain deviation between two collections, finally formed between the two points of the minimum sampling interval,the reciprocal of this is called the equivalent sampling rate. The index can be very high, but in practice we are more concerned with the real-time sampling rate of the oscilloscope, especially for the measurement of single signal.

For the PCB board high speed signal feature:XAUI interface 3.125Gbd serial different signal :60ps,how many bandwidth oscilloscope will measure it exact. What is the measurement error?


For XAUI interface3.125GBd serial different signal,the sound like InfiniBand signal.if use Sinusoidal interpolation method .or like equivalent sample collection, due to its own bandwidth and triggering factors ,when measure 100ps-130ps rising time, Using 7GHz differential probe will make sure error <3%,for measure < 80ps rising time,the errer will more than 10%, Although this is the best solution in a real-time oscilloscope,if just for measure rising time,use network analyzer is the best solution,because it is bandwidth will reach 50G.
